The RAM 1500 stands well above its rivals in terms of power and style. Of course, it's no slouch when it comes to technology and dependable cabin features, either. Depending on your choice of trim, it can be as utilitarian or upscale as you wish. Here's a closer look at this 2023 Ram truck.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Ram 1500 offers eight trims: Tradesman, Tradesman HFE, Big Horn (Lone Star in Texas), Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. The bed size can be either 6' 4" or 5' 7". The Tradesman's exterior highlights include a Class III hitch, bed lighting, 18-inch wheels, automatic headlights, an LED hitch lamp for the damper tailgate, and wide-angle inserts for the heated side mirrors.
Other trim levels continue to add on interior and exterior features. For instance, the Big Horn or Lone Star add extra chrome elements and front fog lights, while the Laramie and higher bring power side mirrors with muddle lights. The Tradesman HFE is unique, removing some features to create an ultra-affordable, efficient work truck.
To the Tradesman or Tradesman HFE, feel free to add a spray-in bedliner, bigger wheels, retracting bed steps, and even a larger fuel tank through optional packages. A Snow Plow Prep package adds several winter-readiness features, including a power sliding rear window with a defroster.
Engine (Power)
Four engine options are available for the 2023 RAM 1500. Up first is a 3.6-liter V-6 engine with 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, plus an eight-speed automatic transmission and 48-volt mild hybrid motor. Most models in four-wheel drive also have a choice between a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, with 260 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque for the former and 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque with the latter. Last but not least, the TRX gets an exclusive 6.4-liter V-8 with 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
The Ram 1500 is ready for any road, bringing the right amount of efficiency, power, and stability, with or without a trailer. On the right configurations combined with the Max Tow package, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and haul up to 2,300 pounds. Through the available Off-Road Group on four-wheel-drive trucks, you can add off-road shocks, a transfer case, and more. For optimal fuel economy, combine the 3.6-liter V-6 with two-wheel drive and earn up to 22 combined city/highway mpg.
Interior
Power windows and door locks, keyless entry, push-button start, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel all come included on the Tradesman, as do a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen display, two USB ports, six audio speakers, and Bluetooth. SiriusXM satellite radio, under-floor storage, carpet flooring, and a 40/20/40-split rear bench seat are available through packages.
Safety Features
The 2023 Ram 1500 has advanced stability and traction control, trailer sway control, tire pressure monitoring, roll mitigation, and a rear seat reminder. You can add lane departure warnings, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and trailer reverse steering control as options, and they also appear on upper-level trims.
The Off-Road Group package on the Tradesman adds, among other practical features, hill descent control. Consider adding on the SiriusXM Guardian suite for remote start, roadside assistance, and emergency services.
