The Durango is a unique model in the three-row SUV segment, as it delivers raw power in a family-friendly package. If you're looking for a performance-focused vehicle that can carry a large crew, it might be the perfect fit.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Dodge Durango fits into the midsize SUV segment and includes three rows of seating. It comes in five trim levels, which are SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392. The base SXT trim features LED fog lights and headlights, roof rails with cross bars, and 18-inch wheels. With the GT trim, sporty styling upgrades include a black front grille, 20-inch wheels, and a power-operated liftgate. Choose the R/T to get a sport-tuned suspension and a unique set of 20-inch wheels.
If you plan to tow heavy loads with your vehicle, the Citadel includes additional features designed to increase the capacity. This trim level also shows off chrome accents. At the top of the list, the SRT 392 trim boasts Brembo brakes, a limited-slip differential, and a high-performance adaptive suspension. You can alter the exterior appearance with the Blacktop package, which bundles blacked-out wheels and trim.
Engine (Power)
Beneath the hood of the lower three models, you'll find a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. This unit pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. Rear-wheel-drive Durango models also include a load-leveling suspension.
With the R/T trim, an upgraded 5.7-liter V-8 engine comes standard. It makes 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. If that's not enough power, choose the SRT 392 to get a 6.4-liter V-8 engine rated at 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. This trim also comes with all-wheel drive as a standard feature.
Performance
Although all trim levels of the Durango perform well, the SRT 392 trim is the most capable. In speed testing, it went from zero to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Both V-8 engines are extremely powerful and can get going quickly for merging and passing. Other appealing performance elements of the SUV include precise steering and handling, which are particularly impressive considering the vehicle's large size.
Interior
Within the roomy cabin, you'll find seating for up to seven, along with tri-zone automatic climate control, manual front seats, and cloth upholstery. Additional features on the base trim include dual USB ports, satellite radio, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, a six-speaker audio system, and an 8.4-inch touch screen. The GT trim tacks on a heated steering wheel and heated front seats as standard, while options include leather upholstery, a larger touch screen, an upgraded sound system, and wireless device charging. Many of these features come standard on the R/T trim, along with a household-style power outlet. With the Citadel, you get second-row captain's chairs that take the seating capacity down to six, plus upgraded leather upholstery and ventilated front seats.
Safety Features
All 2022 Durango models include anti-lock brakes, air bags throughout all three rows of seating, a rearview camera, and stability and traction control. Dodge also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors on all trims. Additional features offered on the upper trims include adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
